We experience the world through our senses but no two people experience it in exactly the same way. One of the presuppositions of NLP states that “the map is not the territory”.
In other words our experience of the world is totally subjective and because we have learned behaviours and responses through our individual experiences we can also change these behaviours and responses to create positive, resourceful states.
There is no need to be trapped into making the same mistakes time after time or endlessly reliving traumatic experiences. NLP provides us with a fantastic toolkit that enables us to reframe, or change, our perception of our experiences. We can experience the world in a joyous and childlike way, full of wonder, if we choose to.
