About Hypnotherapy - Hypnotherapy FAQ

Is hypnosis safe?

Yes, when a qualified and competent therapist practices it. You should ask to see the therapist's qualifications.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, provided they want to be hypnotised.

Will I hear everything that the hypnotherapist says to me?

Yes, you will always be aware of what I am saying and what is happening, even though your eyes may be closed.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

No, definitely not. After a short while, after all hypnotic suggestion has stopped, you come out of trance normally and naturally even if the hypnotherapist does not lead you out of trance.

Can I be made to do anything against my will?

Certainly not. The hypnotic state depends on a state of consent by the client. If at any time you feel a suggestion is against your own personal or ethical code you will reject the suggestion and spontaneously come out of the hypnotic state.

Are you asleep when in the hynotic state?

No. Although the sleep state and hypnotic state appear similar they are in fact quite different. In hypnosis the mind and body are relaxed as in sleep but the mind is also focused on the instructions of the hypnotherapist and is aware of the external environment.
