About Emotional Freedom Technique - Background

Many modern day energy therapies can be traced back to their acupuncture and acupressure roots which are thousands of years old.

Emotional Freedom Technique was developed by Gary Craig who trained with Roger Callaghan in the early years of the development of Thought Field Therapy which involved tapping on the body’s meridian points.

Gary was interested in developing something which was simpler to teach and to learn and he developed EFT. It is used internationally and provides very quick relief for a wide range of problems.

When EFT is used

EFT is used to help people overcome such diverse problems as emotional traumas, phobias, anger, bereavement, grief, depression, and the underlying causes of addictive cravings and weight problems.

It was used in the early 1990s to help Vietnam veterans resolve long standing traumas that other therapies had failed to resolve over the previous 25 year period.

The process reduced the distress experienced by the veterans from 10 to zero on the SUDs scale (this scale is used to assess Subjective Units of Distress with 10 being exceptional distress and zero being no distress).

The client subjectively assesses how they feel when thinking about their experiences as they go through the process and basically benchmark themselves in this way.

How EFT works

EFT works on the body’s energy systems and the process involves tapping on key meridian points around the face, hands and upper body.

Needles are not used and the client generally applies the technique to themselves, being led through it by the practitioner. In some instances the practitioner will apply the tapping process to the client’s body.

If you are familiar with acupuncture or acupressure you can consider EFT as a form of psychological acupressure. It may seem a little odd, even funny, when first introduced to you but it is a very quick, safe and extremely powerful treatment. Once learned the client can use it on other issues as they arise in the future.

I run an EFT Group Clinic once a month in Macclesfield where I use EFT in a group setting. This means that you can experience the therapeutic effects of this wonderful healing technique at a much reduced cost.
